DOES THE
SOPRANO'S WANT TO EXIST ON A LEVEL WITH GODFATHER I AND II OR DOES IT
WANT TO COME ACROSS LIKE GODFATHER III. WE EXPECT MORE FROM THIS SHOW.
YEAR 1 WAS DESERVING OF HONOR, YEAR 2 IS LACKING FOCUS, CONSISTENCY, QUALITY
SCRIPTS AND AUTHENTIC CHARACTERS!
People
don't care about Tony's sister and her complaining. The character is a
bore!
Meadow
and AJ should be window dressing - let them grow up on another show.
Richie
is a goof and he would have been whacked by this time - last year. If
he would have been Tony Soprano, they would have left half the shows in
the can, last year, because no one would have watched this guy with his
one-dimensional, silly, tough guy stare. Richie is slower than Junior...
Pussy
is too good of a character to be written out as a rat. Tony can't have
a crew of only two made guys and Chris. Pussy should be his right hand.
Last year they made sure we knew he was older, smarter, more capable and
dependable than Paulie or Sylvio. This year, he a rat. Don't expect people
to believe that Tony is going to fight the Feds, Junior, goofball Richie
Aprile and the street with Paulie, Sylvio and Chris - stoned or straight.
If Christopher
were a druggie, Paulie and Sylvio would know by now. Who were the clowns
in his hotel room in Naples. I'm sure he got off the plane found a pusher
and a hooker who spoke English, took them up to his room and started to
shoot up. Paulie is bored silly and checked on him once! Last year, when
Chris was depressed, Paulie shows up - unannounced - with a couple of
babes and insists that Chris goes out to feel better. This year, Chris
is a heroin addict and no one knows. Right! Great script continuity and
character development......
No Artie Bucco, only 3 scenes with Dr. Melfie, the nonsense of her
working out of a hotel, no Sylvio in Italy, limited time at the Badda
Bing, going for cheap theatrics with a female Mafia boss, the Pussy disappearance/reappearance
(does Bobby Ewing and the trivial nature of Dallas come to mind) and Bogdonavich
as a shrink, Carm still preaching about what is Catholic/ what is Christian.
Need I say more....
The creative
talent behind this show made a commitment to quality last year. Why have
they gone after tricks, silly characters and obscure story lines this
year? No one needs another Godfather III.
-
That's certainly a mouthful! I do agree about Christopher. In reality
it would be hard not to know that something is going on with him. He
can't be doing all the drugs we see him doing and then act semi-normal
the next scene; at least not enough for someone to figure out that something
is wrong. I too liked Pussy last season and so far his character is
getting worse and worse. He's obvioulsy a guy who's got a lot of problems
and he has to work them out one way or another. Tony did pick up another
guy for his crew at the end of the last show: Furio Giunta. So even
without Pussy, he's got an extra guy, for the moment.
i like
to see more flashbacks on tony's life as a child growing up....it was
a thrill to watch last season which one of the episodes flashed back when
tony was 8 or 9 years old, and his father and uncle junior got arrested
at the carnival....personally i think they should do a whole episode on
that, show tony as a small kid, to being a trouble teenager, to getting
in the business and being made. also on that flashback episode last season,
tony stated to the shrink that he was 8 or 9, and the year was like 1967.
so now we all know how old tony is at the present time..
-
Yes, that would make an excellent show. The flashback episode from last
season was very good and put a lot of things in perspective. I'm sure
if the show keeps going on for many seasons, we'll be seeing more episodes
like that.
Hey,
Love the site, it's nice to be able to voice an opinion about such a
wonderful show. First off, Meadow looks great and she is looking better
and better, but that isn't important at all. My favorite characters all
along have been either Paulie Walnuts or Christopher, but now that Christopher
isn't getting much dialogue, like he did in the first go around, I think
that this Richie Aprile is now my favorite character. I have loved every
episode of the new series, but that that 17 was the best one ever, I mean
it had three stories going on, maybe more. I just can't believe that no
one has pointed out the fact that Tony doesn't think that a women boss
would work in the states, but in fact his wife is a boss, she is the leader
of all the women, especially the way she made Janice feel small after
Janice tried to cut into how her and Tony's marriage is f'd upped. I could
go on, but I won't can't wait for episode 18.
-
Many people had great things to say about Christopher last season, especially
when he had the 'street look'; ie. the tshirt and the jeans. So far
this season they've got him wearing a suit and getting lost in a drug
world. It is kind of a shame because I thought he added a lot to the
show. I think Tony seeing a woman 'running things' and a wife 'running
things' completely different. Sure, she's the boss at home and she orders
him around all the time but I'm sure he seperates family from business
and he sees no relation betwen the two.
I loved
this episode. I have been to Italy, the people who know you treat you
like royalty at first, but if you do not speak their language they can
stab you in the back, it was so right on. As for the common folk, they
hate tourists and I think this episdode did pretty well giving us alittle
glimps.
Paulie with the putana was so funny. About Christopher of course he was
going to hook up with "his kind'" you knew as soon as he saw
the guy with the track marks that there was going to be trouble! They
were like the same rank so you knew he was going to hang with him. And
we are talking about gangsters not alter boys here. They are writing Christophers
character to a T. I don't like it but it ,but it definitley happens this
way everyday. As for Carmella, she is a typical italian mob wife, that
is why Tony married her, Do you think he wants his kids turning out like
him? Heck no that is why Carmellas' character is like this, she keeps
her mouth shut and takes care of the kids but it is the year 2000 . I
am sure she is like every other women and watches OPRAH and gets ideas,
every women does, she IS human and she will have to deal with conflict,
I am sure this is not the first time.It is hitting home this time but
again these are gangsters not ordained ministers! I like how Meadow looks,
And I know she is a teenager but in real life an italian father would
roll those eyes right out of her head. I know my parents did! Speaking
of parents I am one, and my husband makes sure my son is in bed early
so I can watch the show, I would never let him watch it, My 14 year old
neice is too young to watch it, that is why they have guidelines and ratings.
I don't particuarly like the nude scenes, but I'll say it again THEY ARE
GANGSTERS! I like seeing Christopher in suits, Hell he could wear a burlap
sack and a party hat and I would still love him!!!!!!!! I just hope they
don't kill him for being a punk. I know a lot of gangster, drughead, punks
that are in the so called life that are screwups and they are still alive.
I have hope for him!

A lot of people have been complaining about many aspects of the show
and how it is unreal and that things wouldn't happen like they do. Well,
I'm wondering how they know that? Do they really know what goes on in
a crime family? Especially a crime family which has very deep roots?
I seriously doubt it. Unless you've experienced it first hand all we
can know about it what we see in the movies and on television. When
we think of the Mafia we think of The Godfather. That's the way it was
and that's the way it's supposed to be. Well maybe it was like that
in the 50's and early 60's. But here we are now in year 2000 and things
have changed and I suspect that the type of life we see being portrayed
is pretty close to the truth. There's obviously a lot of Hollywood thrown
in, but so what?
This is
in response to the guy that thinks that they've (the writers) have made
Tony to "Jellyfish"...we've got to remember that we're seeing
Tony off his meds (remember his psych's dream). He's fighting anxiety
attacks, trying to regain the faith in his "family" and operating
on more emotion. The cleaning the house segment with Meadow is because
she heard her aunt saying deragotary comments about her. I feel that their
setting up the situation for Meadow to move in with her aunt and grandmother.
I'm pretty sure that Janice is going to try to take over the family using
that aquaintance (sorry I don't remember his name) that got out of jail
and is pissed at Tony. That woman in charge thing was forshadowed in Italy.
I can't
believe that someone would complain that the women characters aren't sexy
enough for their taste! For God's sake it's nice to see faces on TV that
echo those we see in real life. Theater has used "real" looking
people with talent for years...maybe it's time to get over your purile
interests and starting watching the talent and not the t*ts.
-
It's true, we can't be seeing Tony as a "Rambo" in every episode.
He's supposed to be a guy living and being part of a mob family in modern
day times. He's a guy faced with the same everyday problems as the rest
of us, plus he got the additional situations to deal with which come
with his 'line of work'. You might be right about setting up Meadow
to live with her grandmother. I never thought about it like that but
I can sure see it happening, or at least trying to happen. Also, I think
people are so used to seeing models and very attractive people whenever
they watch tv or a movie. We're living in a world where you're supposed
to see the best looking people on TV and that's what everyone comes
to expect... the best bodies, the best teeth and hair-doo's which will
withstand a hurricane. Then once in a while a show comes along which
uses everyday type looking people and everyone starts complaining. It's
ridiculous, but that's what we're accustomed to.
