EPISODE # 24 - House Arrest

This is where you can share your thoughts and opinions on Episode 24. Read what other viewers thought about this episode and feel free to contribute . Sentences in BLUE are my comments. By the way, I don't correct spelling mistakes or edit the incoming email. What you see is exactly what I get.

Note that I receive hundreds of emails every week regarding the show. Certainly not all of them make it on these Feedback Pages. I select the ones I find interesting and that shed some insight into the episode. While I DO read every single email I receive I can't reply to all of them individually. There's simply not enough time. Some of the email I receive require investigation or research. Often if I do find an answer to a question I will post it on the site for everyone to see. So even if I don't email you back personally, know that what you write does get read and acted upon.

This email deserves an intro as well as the usual comments afterwards. I wasn't sure if I should put this one in the "Dumb and Dumber" page or on here. It does provide some insight so I left it on this page.

I think you have the best DAMN COMEDY on TV. Where do you get this stuff? My husband's first job was slinging cans on the back of a garbage truck, in Patterson, NJ, and today we own our own garbage company. I grew up in and around Newark, and knew many people who owned and worked for garbage companies..And, although, we all know the Mafia ran that sort of thing, the reality of your characters leaves much to be desired.

Christopher would have lived about 5 mins, with his mouth and attitude. No Mafia group would want the attention he attracts. Get real if you are going to do a show such as the one you have. I can't believe the Mafia hasn't dumped garbage on your front lawn for the picture you portary of them. You are insulting to say the least.

Shows such as your's just proves Hollywood is stuck in it's own little world, with no realization as to what goes on in the real world. I know you are laughing yourselves all the way to the bank, but, I am just laughing, you show is so corny.

First of all, this person thought this email was going to someone official at HBO or someone involved with the show. It also struck a nerve since they own their own garbage company and have an inside knowledge of how things work. They seem to know some of the people involved in the crime families, enough to be able to compare the actors on the show to real life. This and ONLY this is what gives this email some merit.

Ok, so these people are experts into the dealings of the Mafia and their day to day operations of the garbage business. What in the world were they thinking when they sat down to watch the show? Did they think they turned on PBS or the History Channel?

You're missing the point you moron! This IS Hollywood and this IS entertainment on Cable Television. Are you this critical about every show you see on TV? Do you also say how corny ER or Law and Order or just about any other police/lawyer show is? Every show on television stretches the facts or the reality of a situation. Didn't anyone ever tell you that? Wait, let me ask you something..... Do you think Wrestling on Cable is real? Here is a revelation for you... it's all staged and the results are predetermined. The wrestlers certainly do fight and inflict pain and actually end up getting hurt, but it's all entertainment. Everyone knows this but we still watch it because we get a kick out of it.

You know, many years back a survey was taken by people in Law Enforcement to express their view on which police show on TV most represented day to day affairs. You know which show was rated the highest? It was Barney Miller.

In any case, this is supposed to be Hollywood and entertainment. It's not supposed to be a documentary. There are certain guidelines and frameworks the writers and producers work within to make the show realistic but beyond that it's open season and you're supposed to KNOW that.

I agree that this was one heck of an episode. I love Jr.'s character, and the more screen time he gets the better. The minutae of Jr.'s day-to-day routine while he's confined to his house are hysterical. His cohort is bloated blob of hilarity, and Mrs. Romano's craving for companionship in Jr. reminds him that he's an old man. He's obviously still bitter about losing the 'war' to Tony, and seems conflicted on whether or not to start another one. I think he and Richie will indeed team up to try to oust Tony, or he will see that he's old, and should just retire, and maybe even be an advisor to Tony. Jr. is obvioulsy torn, and feels guilty about what happened last
season, but yet he still tries to hold on as a main player.

I thought the interaction between Tony-Melfi-Melfi's Dr. was great. Some people were critical of Dr. Melfi and Tony's relationship, but I think it brings a lot to the show. It's sort of an objective vehicle for discussing the morality of Tony's life w/o the criminal bias or the self-righteous bias. The show would lose something without Dr. Melfi.

The previews showed Carmella in distress while people were at her or Richie and Janice's doorway. What could this be about? Is Vic doing some more "work"? The last two shows will be great.

I often wonder if Junior is kind of relieved that he's not out and in charge. He must know he was being played as a sucker last season. He also must realize his power limitations and that there is 'him' and 'Tony' in North New Jersey alone. Even though he got the title he knows things were going on behind his back and his attempts to save face failed. Right now he is taking things as they come. He knows Tony is in charge and is calling the shots. He's taking this in stride and except for the constant suggestions from Richie, we've had no indication that Junior is in a hurry to be back at the top.

I don't think the show would work without Dr Melfi or someone like her in the show. This was the big premise to begin with; to get an insight into the inner conflicts and thoughts of a modern day crime boss. I avoided watching Analyze This for the longest time because I thought it was going to be some cheap rip-off; not to mention that I don't like Billy Crystal either. When I finally saw it I thought it was great. That movie also was based on a psychiatrist and mob figure relationship. The movie was made based on that. The Sopranos has a similar foundation and it would lose alot without it. Last season you couldn't wait until the sessions came on. This season most people dread them.

This is great! I had no idea you were the mastermind behind the Sopranos show (just kidding - this is for the "Best Damn Comedy" feedback you got). Can I get an autograph since you seem to be running things there in Hollywood?!

Although I'm certainly no expert on Mafia matters, these sort of things do happen out here in the real world. This from someone who's been in local gov't for several years. And yes, this is Hollywood - entertainment capital, remember? Since it's being shown at night, it was designed for adults, who should have at least a basic idea of make believe/fiction.

Big Pussy was a hoot. He's definitely got the accent down right. But where did all that stuff come from? Maybe they needed to go into a little more detail on that, or did I miss something? And Janice and Richie in that house?! Won't the neighbors love that. It was great to see Christopher up and around; maybe they'll get back to the marriage plans. The scene w/ Tony and the secretary was expected; especially after that look he gave her down the hall after hearing she was "born again". At least we didn't see Richie and Janice at it again!

So close to the end of the season - are there any ideas who'll be written out of next season's scripts? I read Nancy Marchand is having a very difficult time; I know I'll certainly miss her if she's unable to come back. Thanks for the great web site.

Things didn't sound too promising for Nancy Marchand. I've heard she was still showing up to the filming of the episodes but it was very hard on her. She certainly will be missed if her health worsens. If someone were going to be written out of the script I could narrow it down to either Pussy, Livia Richie, Janice or Christopher. I know that's a lot of people but if I really had to pick one, I'd say Richie.

I don't think you missed anything when all of a sudden the WWII stuff arrived. I think it was just to show that these guys are in to so much stuff it's hard to believe sometimes. Big Pussy was great in that scene. I think that's the first funniest thing I've ever seen him do.

Episode 24 was another great one. Although I haven't seen one I didn't love!

Junior really bothered me until this episode, it put him in a different light.

I"m not real happy about the way things are going with Dr.Melfi, I like her character as is, we don't need to much of her personal life it takes to much away from every one else. Although, I LOVED the scene in the restaurant!! I also really , truly wish they would not have Tony screwing around!

Let's hope in the last episode Pussy decides to do the time instead of being a rat. To the person who owns a garbage business and didn't like the show: what the hell did you watch the whole show for if you didn't like it ? And, someone is doing something right I think it's been signed to run 2 more seasons! Also, The Sopranos ,the show is awesome it is the best thing I have seen in a ling time it keeps you glued to your seat and your television, also makes you want to be apart of their world!

Your feelings and impressions are very accurate. Our attitude about Junior really changed this episode. Although he and Tony have been in a power struggle and Junior tried having him killed, I still think we'd all hate to see him go or be out of commission.

Pussy is walking a very fine line and it's coming to a head. He can't keep putting the FED off forever and he's got to continue working with Tony. What else can he do? It's a cliche but he's caught between a rock and a hard place.

Great episode... it showes that even the mob has it's slow days.. you can tell by the way T lights his cigar at the end that the desk gig aint gona last.(but boy! what a rack on the chick! makes me want to go into garbage!).

Loved the whole episode;from the truck returning the garbage to the fed an T talking b-ball.

When Tony muttered "You poor bastard", then when the guy at the garbage company told him Ritchie's guy was caught on tape selling coke and Tony just took it in stride, seeming to shrug it off, well, i've watched enough "Mob" movies to know exactly what's up. Whether Tony will be successful at having Ritchie clipped, and what the repurcussions will be, is my only point of suspense.

All throughout this entire season everyone wanted to see Richie killed. A few people defended him saying that he represented more of what a true mob-like figure was. What I can't figure out is if Richie is killed, what's going to happen with Janice? Without Richie, she's got nothing nor any influence.

Janice and Richie can both go! They are boring, and Richie is disgusting and Janice
is a sneak. Richie will never be BOSS like she is trying to make happen. Janice thinks Junior has the power to get rid of Tony and put Richie in his place, I don't think he does. Never gonna happen! I loved when Tony said something to the effect of , (I hate the way you make me ride you ! ) to Richie

What was the significance of the car accident at the end of Episode 24? All
of T's gang came out of the deli and were PO'd at a guy driving too fast in
the neighborhood. Since when are these guys concerned about speeding and a
safe community? And, were those cops who T, Paulie, g Pussy and Silvio were
talking to? Was this some kind of attempt to demonstrate common ground
among T's gang and the local community?

Sorry for submitting more questions than observation. But, the prior posts seem to cover plenty of good observations (except the person complaining about unrealistic Mafia garbage operation).

I do have one observation. HBO's "best line" contests stinks!
There are so many better lines on the show than the ones HBO included in their contest. Can the owner of this site start an independent best line contest here?

i think the episode was hilarious, i hate junior and i was thrilled to see that his hand got stuck in the garbage disposal. i wish tony had come in and turned it on so his hand would have got mangled. sorry i dont mean to be so cruel but i hate him!!!!

and by the way Mrs. Romano couldnt shutup about friendly's and IHOP whats that all about?

this episode was alright however didnt really move me in any way.

i hope that that big thing at the end of the season is something very SHOCKING.... i hope someone kills junior and i hope they show chris naked he is a stud and a half. in any event, i am a huge sopranos fan and now that i have found this website you will be hearing alot from me, you can be sure of that.

I also was wondering if somehow the garbage disposal would get turned on. The only problem was trying to figure out who would do it. As far as we know, Junior doesn't have any enemies that would do that to him. Hmmm... a naked scene with Christopher? Well you never know. We did get to see Richie's butt last episode so there's still hope. From the few things I've heard, the season ender is supposed to be something big. Only a couple more weeks to wait.

These guys run the neighborhood. I bet that is the safest block in town.
Everything that goes on, on that block is their concern. It is their turf,
just like any other gang. Someone drops a candy wrapper on their block, they
know about it. Protecting the turf.
