EPISODE # 2

These are just my first and mostly random thoughts after viewing the episode. Some of the names may be spelled incorrectly and it may not flow well but I put this together immediately after the show aired.

Episode # 2 in my opinion brought us right back down to the reason The Sopranos is an incredible show. It showed strong personalities, violence, subtle humor and a growing plot of complex situations.

It's great to see Tony on top again and even with all of his problems, both business and personal, his dominant personality comes through with a vengeance. No signs of weakness were seen at all. Tony was in complete control at all times.

Some of the storylines which were layed down last week continued to develop; at a more reasonble pace this time. Not only did Christopher simply make a 30 second appearance but we never even saw Dr. Melfi. I believe this is the very first episode she hasn't been in. Although it would have been great too see what was going on in those areas, there was certainly enough other things going on in the show.

The show begins with Tony seeing Junior at jail. The meeting started off quite intense with Tony asking why he had to wait for three weeks to see Junior. What was most on Junior's mind was that Livia had nothing to do with what happened and that Tony should make peace with his mother. Junior realized that Tony was in charge now and that there was little if anything he could do about it.... right now. They take shots at each other for a bit and Tony tells Junior that he wants to see Bobby Baccala tomorrow and slams down the phone. The meeting goes great, from Tony's point of view. Tony lays down the law of how the business is going to be run and who's getting what. Again we see how powerful Tony really is.

Don't we just love hating Janice? From the start of last episode to close to the end of this episode, her motives were shaky at best. I think everyone knew her main motives were money but in itself there's nothing wrong with that. Many people wrote that they liked Janice and that she'd make a good addition to the show. But that final scene in the hospital actually gave me shivers..... When Janice was telling Livia that she wanted to take her back to her old house and that she'd stay there and take care of her. We see Janice looking towards the Exit sign which indicates to use the stairs in case of fire. Janice sees Livia's face at the bottom of the stairs.... That scene was fantastic. With one shot like that we all know what Janice has in mind......

Junior is released from jail for medical reasons and is placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. He's allowed to go out for Dr. visits and food shopping. As we see, he spends most of his time at the Dr.'s office since those rooms are not allowed to be bugged. This is where he talks about business. Tony is given a cut of money to break up protesters at a construction site. In the end a small riot broke out and business was taken care of. At the end of the show we find out that the main leader and instigator of the protest was actually in on the break up and got a share of the money. He meets Tony and the share of the money is passed.

The big question to be answered is still... what is going on with Big Pussy? Why did he lie about seeing Tony? He knows that Jimmy took the bullet that could have been meant for him. Pussy is probobly still very confused about where he stands and he appears to be wavering.

Tony again meets Junior in the Dr.'s office to discuss business. Amoung other things Junior tells him about the owner/director of the Retirement Community, Freddy Capuano, who talks about the Sopranos to anyone who'll listen. Are we surprised to find out a short while later that he is missing and the police discover his car along with his toupee down by the river?

There's a few domestic scenes involving AJ and Meadow. Meadow got her drivers liscense and AJ was talking about DNA. We never did get the punchline to his joke at the dinner table: "What did one prick say to the other prick?". Anyone know the answer?

The other great line at the dinner table which could probobly be taken any number of ways was Tony's line to Janice: "Oh, I forgot you don't eat pork......Not in that way anyway". AJ starts cracking up and says he knows what Tony meant. Tony simply shrugs it off by saying she's a vegetarian.

I've received quite a lot of email in this last week with people bashing Meadow; everything from people saying she's putting on too much weight to her acting too weird. That she never cared about her grandmother in the past, etc. Remember, she just turned 16 years old. How many 16 year olds do you know who act the same all the time? And let's face it she doesn't exactly live in a "Leave it to Beaver" household.

This was an incredible show and any let-downs or disappointments which may have come up last week are now totally forgotten. This show also bought out just how complex Tony's life really is; not only from his personal situation but from the business aspects. Last season we mainly saw his smaller business dealings and even though a lot was going on, now with Junior out of the way, his area just expanded tremendously. He's got his hands in literally everything and actually manages it all. Is he still taking the Prozac? We never did find out.

Let me know what you think and I'll start posting peoples feedback as I get it.
