EPISODE # 23 - Deus Ex Machina

Furio to Tony: "Maybe you should go on the Lamb Chop for a while".

Furio, you're TOO much! We need a spin-off of The Sopranos with Furio as the main character. We simply don't see enough of him. A one or two minute appearance in each episode is just not enough.

Yuk! Gross me out..... Janice and Richie having sex!! It's bad enough having to see them having sex doggie style but with Janice throwing in her little comments .. that's enough to make anyone sick. What was it that Moon-Unit Zappa said many years back... "Gag me with a spoon". You younger viewers may not remember her and the song "Valley Girl" but... too bad...

At first I thought there wasn't going to be a lot to write about this episode but when I started to put it together I realized there is an incredible amount of material here. What were the major situations?:

  • Tony getting fingered for the shooting
  • Tony cleaning out his high-school buddy's sports shop
  • Carmela working on an affair
  • Riche and Janice having sex and the "It should have been you" line.
  • Tony and his relationship with AJ
  • Big Pussy's ongoing game with the Fed

Did I miss something? Probably but that's enough to start with.

For a while I actually thought something was going to happen as a result of the 'good Samaritan' pointing the finger at Tony and some 'husky guy ' leaving the scene of the shooting. It looked very bad and this could really make for some type of season finale. I would have liked to have know what made the guy forget what he saw. He obviously wasn't whacked but along with the ad in the paper there must have been some bribe or blackmail involved.

It was interesting to see Tony's reaction to the entire situation. He realized he could be in very deep trouble and could land in jail. This made him reevaluate his situation with AJ and the family as a whole. He also seemed to honestly convince himself that he's being blamed for something he didn't do and that he "didn't do anything wrong". It was a great shooting scene though.

Why is it that we don't feel sorry for Davie and the sporting goods store? His entire world is being sucked away and broken down to the point of bankruptcy. Tony even told him that the reason he let Davie into the poker game in the first place was because he knew he had the sporting goods store and there might be something in it for him. "This is how I make my living" Tony tells him. Sure, Davie is a compulsive gambler who always gets in over his head but this was the ultimate destruction for him. His attempt to blow his brains out was interrupted by his wife coming down in the basement.

I'm not quite sure what to think about Carmela's crush on the wallpaper guy. She had that gleam in her eye and acted like a teenager in love for the first time. I had a poll on this site last season asking if Carmela was going to have an affair this season. The results were about 50% either way.

I don't care what anyone says but Livia is hysterical! The minute you see her put's a smile on your face. She's old and grumpy and tells it like it is. She's in her own world and it's hard to know if she really knows what's going on. But she sure is a character.

I don't even want to talk about the sex scene between Janice and Richie. At least Richie kept his underwear on and Janice's enormous boobs were trapped inside her top. It wasn't so much the sex scene itself but the dialog and the gun which really killed me. Her moaning and little phrases were obviously so fake that it was embarrasing to watch. And this is what Richie is in to? Maybe he likes it that way but it certainly wasn't enough to make him end up with a bang.

Got any thoughts or opinions you'd like to share?
