SEASON 2 BEGINS

This is actually the rewrite of my first impressions of the show. I put together a page last night with random and scattered thoughts right after the show ended. Since then I've had some time to think about the show again and read very many comments from visitors to the web site.

First off I had planned to be objective and put everything in perspective but then I thought, hey I'm not a writer or a critic. I'm just a big fan of the show and want to have a way for everyone to share information and express their opinions and ideas.

The biggest complaint people are having so far is in two areas: 1) The introduction of the sister and 2) the lack of a theme or tie-in with the end of the last season. I'm not quite sure what people were expecting to happen. Did they want to see Junior being interrogated further? Did they want to see Tony going after his mother again? Come one, it's time to move on and develop more plots, twists and turns. In a crime-family or mafia type movie, you have to introduce new people all of the time, otherwise there's no one left to kill off. After all, this is supposed to be a major organized crime syndicate with Tony only being in the northern New Jersey area. There's the rest of New Jersey, all of New York and other states involved. Very little has been developed in this arena. Now with the federal charges going on and people being put in jail, all of these other characters which we've never seen are coming out.

Everyone from the first episode is STILL very much in the picture. Junior will still be playing a major role as will Dr. Melfi. Big Pussy is back and Christopher is out on a new adventure. He's got a few wanna-be gangsters working for him and I think everyone is waiting to see when they get whacked.

This first episode was a foundation layer for everything to come. It was very complex and threw a lot at you all at once. I believe David Chase did this on purpose. Everything that happened is going to develop into seperate storylines and things will develop over time.

Anyway, enough of the overview. Now down to the details.....

Big Pussy? - The vote is still out on him. He's hard to take seriously and you're still left with some doubts and suspicions.

Christopher in the brokerage business? Come on - give me a break! That will never last. He's not the kind of guy to sit behind a desk in a suit and follow federal guidelines.

Janice, the sister... Yes, she's weird and still living in the '60's but she's manipulative and is in it for the money. She's going to be a big thorn in Tony's side.

Dr. Melfi - has she ever changed... No longer the shy and innocent girl she used to be. She'll be talking to Tony again and who knows where it will lead from there.

Tony - positioning himself to be the Boss and doing a pretty good job at the moment. He's having guys killed who are looking to take over Juniors territory and his own guys are extremely devoted.

Carmella - Still the wife trapped in a gangsters world. She wants to get out and have things 'normal' but she knows that will never happen. You kind of feel sorry for her.

Anthony Jr. and Meadow are growing up very quickly. Anthony Jr. is quite a character and pretty funny. We need to see more of him.

I crack up every time I see Silvio doing impressions of "The Godfather".

I'm tired of seeing Tony pass out.

I also wouldn't mind not seeing Father Phil (aka Father Jughead) again.

All in all this is a great show and will develop over time. HBO has created an enourmous amount of HYPE about the show and hopefully it'll pay off.
