"For All Debts Public And Private" - 9/15/02

At last the season premiere!

Picking up the pieces from season 3- Jackie Jr.'s funeral was the end of season 3. Meadow was nearly hit by a car, and AJ was not attending school when season 3 ended. The only tie in to the funeral was Rosalie's stupor at the dinner table.

The premiere starts with AJ apparently back in school, but we don't know much about it. He was having panic attacks and the last mention of school was a military boarding school. Meadow made an extremely brief appearance on this episode. We see all the usuals, and several new faces in the family. AJ has a clean cut looking friend from school.
Adrianna's new "buddy" has a totally different look from the last time we saw here out shopping. The old switcheroo?
Paulie's in jail? What's up with that? I felt totally lost as the show unraveled. Odd looks and uncomfortable silence on the phone with Johnny Sac from the jail. Guess we'll see how that plays out! They seemed so buddy buddy in the parking lot from season 3 finally. Losing Paulie this early in the season would be devastating!
Carm is taking a proactive approach with Tony this season. No mention of the trip to Italy, or the Real Estate coarses so far. She's questioning the money issues. Is she building up a plot line?
Christopher seems to be having a bigger drug problem than previous seasons. Perhaps it's always been a big problem without a focus. It's definitely focused now! He was also responsible for the first whacking of the season! Is this part of Tony's plan, which he revealed to Dr. Melfi, or was he just using him to off an unknown retired cop?
Silvio has not changed character and seems there is nothing too new going on in his life besides watching tony bash in Georgie's head with a bucket of ice.
Bobby is back and has been promoted! The funniest lines of the night were centered around a scene with him and Tony at a diner. What a hoot! If you missed it you'll have to watch on Wed for the Encore performance.......
Janice apparently needs a new man in her life. Looks like she's trying to hook Ralphie though I just can't see why. This should play out well over the course of the season.
Dr Melphi got minimal screen time tonight. A very short therapy visit for Tony, but she does beg him to leave his connections. She's getting involved (prediciton 1 for this season...... Tony and Dr. Melfi will have some kind of intimate encounter this season)
Uncle Junior is facing his trial. We heard at the end of season3 that it was coming. It's in the organization phase now and he's receiving bills. He also received a phone call that was quite disturbing! If the messenger didn't get it wrong, there was an FBI plant in his Dr.'s Office. He thinks it's a nurse that he's been chatting up (she's never been seen on any episode I've watched) I think he'll be surprised to find she's not the one! Money is a big issue..... Really big! Medical bills, attorney fees and not a lot of money coming in from his downline. Tony offers to buy a piece of his Real Estate to help out with the bills. Tony has ulterior motives........
Finally Tony! He's back, bigger than life, and bad as they come this season! He's wheeling and dealing and planning. The entire focus of the show revolved around money. Everyone wanted more and he's tucking away bricks of it in garbage bins and under floor tiles. He's asking the captains to kick up more for Junior because of his bills. The scene with Dr. Melphi outlines a plot to run the business through Christopher to keep himself out of the lime light, out of harms way and out of jail. He shirks the notion that he may be following in his uncle's footsteps by bringing up his house and how he must be doing better than Junior ever did because of the house he owns. What's he going to do with all that money he's storing like a squirrel (one that we see near the pool mid episode) Is he hiding his nuts for the winter??? He's not telling Carm about that money.... that's for sure!
All in all it was a good opener much like each season before it. A bit disjointed from the finale 1 1/2 years ago, but we can only hope some story lines will tie together in the end. Many people don't have a positive reaction to the first episode of the season. It will probably be the same this year as well.

An eclectic music experience was had by all!.... as usual
