"Everybody Hurts" - Aired- 10/20/02

Tonight was the night that Tony decided to tell Christopher of his plans to issue commands through him. The plan is to start small and eventually play out as described to Dr. Melfi. Unfortunately Christopher was high and probably didn't understand the scope of his responsibilities in the future. Christopher questions how Silvio and Pauli are not going to be involved and Tony responds with....... they aren't my blood.

AJ's getting involved with a rich girl. Odds on bets she'll end up pregnant by the end of the season. Devin wants to be a mafia girlfriend. All AJ's friends know about the mob ties with his dad (how'd that happen?) AJ can't even find the strip club. He directed them to the pork store and everyone got bummed out. By the end of the show he's feeling like poor white trash....

Carm is worried about Furio being "Lonely"??? She fixed him up with a blind date for the Billy Joel concert..... Seems a bit off with all the sexual tension between them. Carm meets up with Ade in the gym. She starts asking about why she's not been around. Ade blames her club problems and Christopher's "flu". Carm has this quirky look on her face when she find out they won't be able to make the concert. Carm had been wanting an extra set of tickets for Furio and his blind date........ worked out perfectly!

Carm had some interesting gossip for Tony tonight. She'd been to have the car serviced and heard Gloria committed suicide. Tony went down to verify the info and went into a dream sequence. It's a must see..... very well done. I do wish they would have shown the dream before telling the story behind it. It would have given a better kick. I hope they start bringing more of that back into the show. All the dreams have been excellent!

Tony confronts Melfi on the suicide and loses his temper.

Tony takes Janice out for dinner at Vesuvio. References to Mom, meat, bones and marrow start the conversation. Tony questions her involvement with Bobby. She, as usual gets on the defensive. Are they really a "thing", did I miss something??? The Ralphie situation never came up.

Tony's got a new babe on the side. I wonder where she came from!

Artie decides to try and make some quick money on a short term loan. He ends up borrowing the money for the loan from Tony (Ralphie wouldn't take the chance, thank GOD). The deal goes bad and Artie tries to commit suicide. Tony is left trying to cover it up. Ouch.... ripping out an earring? That's gotta hurt!

Carm is finally happy about the trust funds set up. Maybe that little token will help their marital problems for a while......

All in all this was probably the best episode so far this season. Based on what's been happening each episode it seems the writers are trying to avoid the "soap opera" feel that was starting to set in. Many of those dangling story lines will probably never show up again. Pity... some were quite good, we can only hope for a resolution to some of the better ones later this season.

On a final note, I read that some of the episodes had to be rewritten due to cast illnesses. This could explain why some of the episodes have been a bit blaze so far. With Paulie being absent virtually every episode so far it kinda makes you wonder if he's one who's been sick. Based on previews for next week it looks like he'll be back. Looking for some big time action soon. The foundation has been layed for lots of potential. Can't wait for next week on the Sopranos!
