Episode 49- "The Strong Silent Type"- aired 11/17/02

After all the speculation here about a possible dream sequence surrounding Ralph's death it did seem "possible". After tonight's episode I think it's clear he's gone, but may return in dreams of the future.

As usual we see Christopher shooting up. He's really a mess. I think he hasn't had a scene sober this season. As he crashes on the couch we hear a short whimper. Poor Cosette. Who'd have thought she would die so tragically at the hands of Christopher. He crushed her and broke her neck. He was so stoned he didn't even know. Adrianna was devastated. She was so upset she spilled the beans with the Feds on his drug problem... well they already knew but she denied it till now.

Tony gets a package delivered. It's the painting he ordered from the artist. He and Pie-O-My. He can't stand the sight of it and leaves the club. He called back and demanded Silvio burn it. Paulie does some garbage picking and lands it for his apartment. What'll happen if Tony visits???

Christopher is late for a TV delivery. He's out looking for his heroine fix. He ends up in the wrong neighborhood and takes a real beating. When he gets back, he has a big fight with Ade and gives her a black eye. She seeks help from Tony. Interestingly she comments "please don't hurt him". Tony's got to wonder why she said that! He's going to wonder if Chris is telling her confidences (like about Ralph). It could come up again. She found out about Richie from the Feds, how will she explain that one away???

Tony seeks advice from Junior on how to deal with this drug problem. Anybody else would get whacked because they could flip. Junior thinks he should be put to sleep. Instead they decide on an intervention. It ends up in a big gang fight. Chris ends up in the ER and then is sent to rehab under the watchful eye of patsy.

Some of the guys are now questioning what happened to Ralph. He's missing and only an answering machine. A few think Tony did it. Tony decides to finger NY over the HUD deal. The problem is Carmine and Johnny know they never talked to Ralph about it. Carmine will know Johnny Sac didn't do it, but who will believe them? Paulie? Maybe..........

Paulie seems a little paranoid about Tony's eyes following him around at home. He goes so far as to have Tony's clothing changed to a "Napoleon" type uniform. He hangs it up again, but he sees it's the eyes that are disturbing. Poll time! Is this a sign of things to come? Will Paulie be next? A couple of the guys know Paulie was playing tattle tale to NY while he was locked up. If this isn't a sign, has anyone figured out the significance of the eyes? There were several episodes with eyes references, tonight's episode was just another one. This goes back to season 1. Can anyone tie the eyes focus with things to come?

Carm confesses to Roe that she is attracted to Furio. She keeps taking AJ over to his house seemingly as a crutch. Poll time!! Will they ever get together? Will it be a secret that is never revealed? Will Tony die over it next season? Will there be an attempt on his life yet this season? Will Furio get caught and be the next one to go? At the end of the episode Carm is not at home. We see Tony and Furio doing similar things in the kitchen. A very symbolic move......... I wonder if it's the ghost of things to come?

As a final note....... There have been a significant number of historical references this season. The Christopher Columbus episode seemed out of place, but maybe it meant more than it seemed at the time. Tonight Tony was repainted as a Napoleon look alike.... could be a soldier in uniform?? The Alexander Hamilton eyes scene at Christopher's mom's...some hidden meaning? The beating of the marching drums at the end of tonight's episode leads me to believe the soldiers are falling into formation... a past reference to Sun Tzu??? Maybe we will find out in the next 3 episodes!

Tonight seemed to be setting up the remainder of the season. It should be very interesting!
